Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programme for treatment of Moderate Acute Malnourished (MAM) children age 6-59 months and Acute Malnourished Pregnant & Lactating Women (AM-PLWAHEAD is implementing the project in Nuristan and Takhar provinces. The objective of this project is to treat moderate acute malnourished children age 6-59 months and acute malnourished pregnant and lactating women in target areas during the project period. Another objective of the project is to increase nutrition awareness of pregnant and lactating women and MAM children caregivers and promote optimal behaviors among them through social behavior change communication (SBCC).
AHEAD will provide supplementary ration to moderately acutely malnourished children aged 6–59 months and PLW. Children will remain in the supplementary feeding program and exit the program when well-nourished (MUAC 12.5 cm or more). Pregnant women will remain in the program until they are cured (MUAC 23 cm or more) or until they reach the sixth month of lactation. According to standard SFP guidelines, each child aged 6–59 months will receive 15 sachets RUSF bi-weekly, whereas PLW will receive 7.5 kg of Super cereal. The supplementary ration will be distributed to the acutely malnourished PLWs on monthly basis, and RUSF to the children 6-59 months with MAM on bi-weekly basis, depending on the actual beneficiary caseloads and the distance between the beneficiaries and the health facilities |
